MINISTRY UPDATES

SPIRITUAL HEALTH CHECK

Usually around this time of year, a lot of people are seeking to get fit and healthy for the spring.  It’s a good endeavor and I wonder if we consider the same aim in our spiritual lives. Even in Paul’s greeting to his young minister, Titus, we find an aim for healthy spiritual results in Christian ministry:

“...for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life.”  (Titus 1:1b-2a)

A healthy Christian life can really be boiled down to these 3 things:

  1. Our knowledge of and faith in the truth

  2. The ever-transforming godliness that we walk in

  3. Our future hope

It is within these three categories that we are either spiritually healthy or spiritually unfit.  So, in our upcoming series, let’s take a spiritual health check and make it our aim to get in shape spiritually!

NEW ELDER CANDIDATE

The New Testament describes two primary leadership offices in the local body: elders and deacons (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Philippians 1:1; 1 Peter 5:1-4; James 5:14; Acts 20:17-35). We often say, “elders serve by leading and deacons lead by serving.” Specifically, our elders focus on leading, teaching, protecting and caring for the church.  Our deacons focus on our facilities, finances, and benevolence.  Our church is currently blessed with a godly and committed group of five deacons and four elders. When potential leaders are identified, through their character and service to the church, they are invited to prayerfully consider the role. They then complete an application and interview process and are presented to the church. One of our deacons, Keith Logan, has been identified as a potential elder. We would ask you to pray for Keith and his wife, Theresa, and if there are any unresolved personal matters that would prevent Keith from leading, please address them with Keith first, and then an elder if necessary.  Assuming there are no hindrances, Keith will be affirmed and installed in the next month.
